Sensory Garden
Easy On Palate

A Yallingup winery has come up with a novel way to remove the intimidation factor from the wine experience.
Visitors to the newly opened Q
Wines can explore their senses in the
wine sensory garden and cellar door
aroma board.
The sensory garden will help wine
novices understand wine labels that
refer to aromas of apple and lychee or tastes of cherry and strawberry.
Plants in each of the garden's five
sections represent a wine variety and
the plant characteristics it displays.
An aroma board allows further
sensory exploration for characteristics that could not be reflected in
the garden, such as chocolate and
licorice.
Shelley Masterson from Q
Wines said the sensory experience
was designed to make the wine process more relaxed, fun and informal.
"We are not claiming to be experts but just want to help people explore their senses and the characteristics of wine in a unique way," Mrs Masterson said.
She reassured visitors they could
never be wrong when trying wine.
"It's your own personal experience some people detect aromas or
flavours, others don't. It's an individual exploration,'' she said.
