Wines not Mines in Margaret River
Over the past few weeks the Association has closely watched developments with the proposed Vasse Coal Project at Osmington, Margaret River; in that time it has also taken the opportunity to meet with the Department of State Development officers and LD Operations Pty Ltd staff as well as attending the Augusta Margaret River Shire Council meeting on the 11th August 2010. 2009 / 2010 Raffle Winners
Congratulations to Alan Smith of Melbourne who took out first prize in our Wine Raffle. Alan was on holiday here in WA and purchased his winning ticket from Willespie while enjoying a tour of Margaret River with his daughter from Perth. Both Alan and his family were ecstatic at winning the raffle and are already making plans to celebrate! It is great to see another step forward for the Margaret River brand in what is essentially a product placement initiative direct to consumers – the ultimate purchasers of your wine.
Incredibly both second and third prizes were sold by Island Brook and went to Rebecca Hubert of Greenwood and Dallas Gill of Busselton respectively.
Thank you to all members who assisted the Association in selling tickets and a special thank you to Lenton Brae for selling the most tickets.
DEC Autumn 2010 Prescribed Burn Program
The Department of Environment and Conservation wishes to advise members of the Margaret River Wine Industry Association of its proposed Autumn 2010 Prescribed Burn Program in the South West Region. Click here to download map.
The burns indicated are being undertaken for a range of purposes including management of fuels on DEC lands for protection of life, property and community values, protection and enhancement of biodiversity values, and also for regeneration of forests following timber harvesting operations.
The Department takes into consideration known adjoining vineyards and processing facilities when planning for prescribed burns, including development of burn ignition strategies which aim to minimise potential for smoke to transport and settle on vineyards for sustained periods – particularly in the period of veraison. Please contact DEC directly on 9725 4300 if you have any questions.
