The Margaret River Wine Industry Association is the voice of the Margaret River wine region, representing grape growers, wine producers and commercial interests of the wine industry.
The Association will continue to strive to represent the best interests of its members by promoting the Margaret River wine region as a region of distinction.
It is responsible for
- Representing members of the wine industry at all levels of industry, corporate organisations and government
- Promoting industry development through research, education and training opportunities
- Encouraging and promoting excellence in the growing of grapes and wine production
- Creating opportunities for members to market and promote their product
Some of the initiatives of the MRWIA over the past year include
- Created a Technical & Environment Committee with a specific focus on Margaret River to develop best sustainable practice
- Created a Planning Committee to work closely with the Shires of Augusta-Margaret River and Busselton
- Monitoring issues and preparing industry statements, such as one of the Yarragadee
- Commenced negotiations with CALM to try and avoid smaoke taint issues
- Strengthing ties with Curtin University of Technologyto gain assistance on research projects, such as Wine Watch which looks at the treatment of winery waste water
- Significantly advanced surface water resource security in conjunction with the Whicher Water Resource Management Committee
- Work closely with the OSH Focus Group to advance occupational health and safety
- Created the Margaret River Precinct at Wine Australia International 2006 in Sydney, with opportunities for all sized wineries to participate
- Hosted the 2006 Landmark Wine Industry Field Day
- Developing closer ties with Department of Agriculture & Food, Tourism WA, Australia's South West, local tourism association and other agencies to facilitate international trade and media
