Since the first significant planting of vines in 1967, the Margaret River wine region has grown to become regarded as potentially one of the great wine-producing regions of the world.
Armed with little more than passion in the early days, Margaret River winemakers have worked together to place the region’s name on the world stage.
Despite, or perhaps because of its youth when compared to centuries-old wine regions around the world, Margaret River has a vibrant and innovative wine industry that promotes progressive attitudes and trends in viticulture and winemaking.
Margaret River wine is blessed by the region’s natural environment which makes it a favourite for visitors around the world.
Although the region contributes only 3 per cent of the country’s wine grapes it commands over 20 per cent of today’s premium wine market.
Today there are over 5,500 hectares under vine and over 120 wine producers in the region.
2009 / 2010 Raffle Winners
Congratulations to Alan Smith of Melbourne who took out first prize in our Wine Raffle. Alan was on holiday here in WA and purchased his winning ticket from Willespie while enjoying a tour of Margaret River with his daughter from Perth. Both Alan and his family were ecstatic at winning the raffle and are already making plans to celebrate! It is great to see another step forward for the Margaret River brand in what is essentially a product placement initiative direct to consumers – the ultimate purchasers of your wine.
Incredibly both second and third prizes were sold by Island Brook and went to Rebecca Hubert of Greenwood and Dallas Gill of Busselton respectively.
Thank you to all members who assisted the Association in selling tickets and a special thank you to Lenton Brae for selling the most tickets.
