Wine Region Festival Will Continue
The Margaret River Wine Industry Association has given its commitment to continue the Margaret River Wine Region Festival as an event to showcase the best of the region’s wine, food and arts to visitors.
The Festival Association has voluntarily sought amalgamation with the MRWIA. The decision to seek amalgamation with a like minded association by Festival members was made at its February 8 AGM.
The MRWIA has accepted the amalgamation offer, giving assurances the Festival’s key objectives in promoting all interests within the wine region will be continued.
MRWIA president Ron Fraser said the MRWIA agreed to the amalgamation request to ensure the reputation of the Festival remained undiminished.
“We want to see the Margaret River name further strengthened in the market place and recognise the Festival is a powerful vehicle to achieve this,” Mr Fraser said.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure the Festival Association’s broader constitutional objectives of promoting interest in the Margaret River wine region, its wine, food and arts and crafts are carried on.
“Working with the Shires of Augusta Margaret River and Busselton, the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association, the Geographe Bay Tourism Association, Margaret River Regional Producers Association and Margaret River Artisans, we are confident the Festival will continue to be a major event in the region.
“This is the first time the major stakeholders have signaled their desire to work together cohesively on this Festival with both financial and in-kind support.
“We urge current and past Festival members to get behind the changes and continue to support this event, which attracts thousands of visitors to celebrate our food, wine, art and region as a whole.
A Special General Meeting on March 12 will allow Festival members to vote on the amalgamation decision.
