New Committee Members Adds Skills to Association


The Margaret River Wine Industry Association’s Executive Committee welcomed two new members at its AGM on Tuesday night, strengthening the Committee’s diverse wine industry expertise.

Leah Clearwater, a Senior Viticultural and Winemaking consultant with AHA Viticulture and Voyager Estate General Manager Alex Wright will sit on the board for the first time.

Chapman Grove owner Ron Fraser was returned as President for a second term while Vasse Felix Group Winemaker Virginia Willcock was also re-elected.

A former Research Viticulturist and Lecturerat Michigan State University in the US, Leah said she would foster increased opportunities for grower liaison, and wanted to see the Association committedto the support and promotion of local industry through education and research.

Keen to see the Association play a role inMargaret River’s development, sustainability and promotion, Alex was recently invited to sit on the Wine Industry Association of WA Board and was selected in the national wine industry’s Future Leaders programme, providing additional benefits in terms of leadership and industry knowledge.

The 8-person Executive Committee guides the strategic direction of the Margaret River Wine Industry Association.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Power said with seven nominees for the four positions, the Executive Committee was always guaranteed to remain strong.

“There is an important balance of diverse skills and representation for grape growers, wine producers and our commercial members,’’ Mr Power said.

“It is important the Association represents all aspects of viticulture and winemaking, and we now look forward to continuing to move forward with the new Executive Committee.”
