“Uncover the Mystery” – Xanadu Dragon; New Wines for a New EraXanadu Dragon 05_06

Following the first anniversary of Rathbone Family ownership and a major transformation and refurbishment of the restaurant and cellar door, Xanadu continues to excite, through the launch of a new range of quality, affordable wines – ‘Dragon’.

The Dragon collection is named after the legendary Xanadu logo. The Dragon logo has become synonymous with Xanadu’s history and growth. Created in the early 1990’s, it was designed to encompass the mythical element associated with the Kubla Khan poem, whilst combining the Chinese symbolism of the essence of nature, manifested in the elements of earth, wind, fire and water.

The Rathbone Family, also owners of Victoria’s Yering Station in the Yarra Valley, Mount Langi Ghiran in the Grampians region, as well as South Australia’s Parker Coonawarra Estate, have built a reputation for uncompromising winemaking and viticulture and the Dragon wines certainly reflect this.

With the range predominantly from the Margaret River region with a small portion of the red wines coming from the renowned Frankland River district, Dragon is a selection of varieties that we feel mirror the true characteristics of these areas, whilst maintaining Xanadu’s individuality and style.

Prepared from two outstanding vintages, the series includes:

2006 Dragon Sauvignon Blanc Semillon         RRP $16.00 (cellar door price)

2006 Dragon Chardonnay (Unoaked)            RRP $16.00 (cellar door price)

2005 Dragon Cabernet Merlot                       RRP $16.00 (cellar door price)

2005 Dragon Shiraz                                     RRP $16.00 (cellar door price)

Winemaker, Glenn Goodall comments on the wines; “the Dragon whites are a good example of the style direction under the new label; crisp, clean wines with a wonderful purity of fruit. Whilst the Dragon reds are all barrel matured, they remain fruit driven wines offering great depth, with vibrant, varietal expression”.

The Dragon wines will be available nationally on 1 March 2007 and can be obtained through; Four Seasons Fine Wines in Western Australia (08) 9227 1250, New South Wales (0407 225 824) and Queensland (0410 614 767), Winestock in Victoria and Tasmania (03 9418 7899), Porter and Co in South Australia (08) 8373 3010 and Thomas Chin in Northern Territory (0418 828 538).
