The Foxtel-commissioned 8-part series stars TV chef Ben O’Donoghue, who rose to fame with Surfing the Menu.  A proud West Australian, Ben now works in London and is best mates with Jamie Oliver.

Ben will be joined by former My Restaurant Rules judge and Sydney head-chef Darren Simpson, and former Jam Tarts band member and now North Fremantle chef Anna Gare.

Filmed in Fremantle by Mago Films, the series will challenge the chefs to use local produce to create dishes that will be judged by a different weekly panel of food industry experts.

Margaret River Wine Industry Association Chief Executive Officer Nick Power said the series was invaluable in positioning Margaret River wine as one of the premium wine producing regions in Australia.

“Having Margaret River wine featured exclusively on a programme titled The Best of Australia proves the reputation of our fine wines,” Mr Power said.

“It will promote Margaret River wine to millions of viewers world-wide through Foxtel, before being passed to Australian commercial television in two years time.

“This series is better than any advertisement because the chefs will be able to educate people on matching good food with good wine,” he said.

The Association was also able to facilitate the use of Margaret River produced cheese and beef in the programme.

Filming of The Best in Australia begins mid-February and is expected to air on Foxtel mid-2007.
